Our Academics
Third grade is a critical period of growth and development academically. Students and parents will see a a lot of academic content in the third grade classroom.
Literacy
Literacy is a deep dive! We will work hard every day with both fiction and non-fiction texts. It will be very important for your student to read and write EVERY DAY!!
Science
Our focus in science at the beginning of the year will be on the scientific method. What steps do scientists use when they are testing something new?
We begin our in-depth science studies with a move into the exploration of the Earth and its place in the universe.

Writing
Reading and writing are very closely connected. I will be asking your student to write in every subject area. This will help them grow as both a reader and a writer We will investigate many different forms of writing this year.
Social Studies
In third grade, we will spend time studying our local community as well as cultures and traditions. We have studied important figures in history as we looked at timelines.
We will also spend time later in the year looking at the branches of government.

Mathematics
We have a lot of work to do in math. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and do some hands on activities. There is evidence of math all around you and your child at home and we will be talking about multiplication, division, geometry , fractions and multi-step problems throughout the year.
Specials
Students will have the opportunity to interact with our PE, art, music, STEM and Media teachers while in a virtual classroom.
